"Because every child deserves a chance."
Hello!! My name is Christine Roy. I am the President and founder of this amazing organization. I created it in the name of my son, Trey Roy, who was born with Spina Bifida. He was born paralyzed from the waist down and has been using a wheelchair since he a young child.
Since a very young age Trey had a love of sports, but due to his disability he wasn't able to play with his peers in the normal way. We were fortunate enough to come across a few organizations who were creating adaptive sports teams for kids like Trey. We soon found out that his participation in sports was going to be very expensive. He needed special chairs to participate. We needed to travel across the country in order to compete. We had 4 boys so packing up for a weekend and going across the country was not a cheap date.
But Trey was thriving. He had amazing talent playing basketball and track. We were very fortunate that there were organizations that were there to help us out. They borrowed us wheelchairs for him to use. These chairs could value from $2500-$5000+. They provided us with grants to help pay for our travel expenses. We received assistance with everything he needed to participate. We couldn't possibly thank them enough. I truly believe that Trey would not be the amazing man he is today without his participation in sports and for the fact that he was able to do so because of the generosity of others. It's very humbling. I always dreamed of being able to pay it forward. Well, here is our chance.
I have fantastic news to announce. With the assistance of the Tessari Group, I am in the process of creating a foundation called the Trey Roy Foundation. This organization will raise money for the sole purpose of helping kids with special needs and their parents. We will provide funding to assist with purchasing the special equipment needed to play sports such as the basketball chairs or three wheeled track chairs or whatever other adaptive equipment is necessary. We will give scholarships to allow kids to go to the adaptive sports camps in the summer. Money can also be used to pay for special drivers Ed instruction and hand controls and or adaptive equipment such as lifts for their vehicles. Money can be used to make needed adaptations to the home to make it more accessible to the child. And money can be used to help pay for all the things insurance doesn’t cover such as wheelchair tires and tubes and other necessary adaptive equipment needs. Preference for the grants will go to those with needs for sports equipment and camps.
So how will the foundation get the money to help these families? We will operate under our parent organization the Tessari Group for which I am also the Chief Operations Officer. Fundraising events for the foundation will be held by the Tessari Group selling their custom designed products with the proceeds going to the foundation.
In addition, now this is the exciting part, when items are purchased off of our website, you can choose what charity you’d like your proceeds to go to. For those that don’t have a favorite charity, the money will go into the Trey Roy Foundation fund to be dispensed to the families of special needs kids. How exciting is that???
Trey Roy will play a huge roll with the foundation working as the Director of Communications. He will be reading all applications and helping to decide where the money is needed most. This means so much to me that we are able to do this. It’s been a dream of mine for so many years. Both Trey and I are firm believers in “paying it forward.” Trey would not be where he is today without some assistance along the way. We want to make sure that as many kids as possible have that same opportunity.
"Because every child deserves a chance."
The combination of these two organizations has the potential to reach an amazing number of kids. The Tessari Group focuses on selling custom designed, high quality products not sold anywhere else. There is something for everyone. There are board games, card games, play sets, puppets, plush animals, popcorn, chocolates, family apparel, shoes, jewelry, meditation jars and more. New products are also on their way. The Tessari Group will hold special fundraisers to sell these products and also online sales with the net proceeds going to the Foundation.
The Trey Roy Foundation will accept applications from those requesting assistance with whatever they are requiring. Applications will be reviewed by Trey and the Board. Preference will go to those requiring assistance for sports equipment, travel expenses, and camps.
Applications will be accepted from families across the country. The number of grants and scholarships dispensed depends on funding available at the time application is received.
Grants and scholarships of up to $5000 will be dispensed to those deemed highest in need. Families may apply every other year.
Because every child deserves a chance.
